Croeso i Ddosbarth Famau (FL)

Welcome to our Foundation Learners class Dosbarth Famau. Our learning journey begins in Nursery and continues through Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.  We also welcome Early Entitlement children from the term they reach their 3rd birthday.

Ein Dosbarth

Through our Foundation Phase classroom we provide our children with a secure, caring and stimulating learning environment were all those present have the opportunity to build and develop their skills and abilities.

All areas of the classroom are utilised to develop not only the children’s literacy and numeracy skills, but we also aim to develop other important aspects such as their fine motor skills, and well-being.

Throughout their school day all children will be engaging in child centred learning experiences, that are both meaningful and relevant; whilst also completing daily challenges and focus tasks based upon our topic at that moment.

Important Information / Gwybodaeth Pwysig

Our topic this term is Friend or Foe. Ein thema y tymor hwn yw Ffrind neu Gelyn

The book we will be focusing on this term will be the Highway Rat.

What have we been doing this term?

We have been very busy this term so far, and have been looking at how the Highway Rat was a ‘baddie’ in the book.

During one of language activities the children took on the role of a police detective and conducted an interview with one of the Highway Rat’s victims. They then used this information to complete a witness statement.

We have been working on our describing skills and have been describing different aspects of the books, such as a scene and a characters feelings.

Reading Books / Llyfrau Darllen

Reading Books will be sent home every Friday.  We kindly ask that you spend time listening and supporting your child with their reading and then send the book back the following Friday in order for it to be changed.

However, if you feel your child is able to read the book easily before than Friday, please feel free to return the books at an earlier date.

Spelling/ Sillafu

Year 2 children will be provided with their words following an initial assessment.   We kindly ask that you practise the spelling with your child and help them understand its meaning and how it can be used in a sentence. Spelling tests will be held every Friday.

Nursery and Reception / Meithrin a Derbyn

We love hearing about all the wonderful things your children have been doing outside of school, to help encourage this, please talk to your children about what they have done over the weekends and holidays. This can help them remember fun things to tell us when they come back to school!

When you have downloaded the SeeSaw app, you will have the ability to post and share pictures with school. This is a great way for your child to share what they have been up to, and gives them an opportunity to develop lots of social and vocabulary skills . Log in details have been sent home in September, however please feel free to ask a member of staff for another copy should you need them.

Maths / Mathamateg

Our focus this term will be money, mass and measuring.

We aim to make our focus activities as engaging as possible, to ensure we do this we plan our focus activities to include a mix of working in books and hands on learning.

We also have challenges within the different areas of the class that help the children reinforce their knowledge independently
