FIVE mums, all with children at Ysgol Y Foel in Cilcain, have successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge.

Jana Nekulova, Kate Richards, Caroline Conway, Nina Garnett and Brid O’Connell are community heroes.

Together, they climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Yr Wyddfa in under 24 hours, all to raise money for new outdoor play equipment at their village school in Mold.

Setting off at 4:00pm on Friday, June 20, and finishing at 3:45pm on Saturday, June 21 the team— known as Mums on the Mountain—covered over 35km of hiking and climbed more than 3,000 metres of elevation during what turned out to be a mini heatwave, especially during their first summit, Ben Nevis.

Despite the soaring temperatures, the team safely completed the challenge with no injuries and have already raised over £3,000.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has donated and cheered us on”, said Caroline Conway, Mum on the Mountain team member.

“It was an absolute honour to take on this challenge with Brid, Kate, Jana, and Nina. We powered through a mini heatwave (with just a few drops of rain!) — and thankfully, no midges, no blisters, and no injuries.

“The support from the local community has been incredible. Every donation makes a real difference to the children at our school.”

Together on the fundraising page, they said: “What an epic day we had. The weather and traffic were on our side and we managed to complete it in just under the 24hrs. A big thanks to our driver and coach Sean, he made all the difference in us finishing on time.

“A massive thank you to everyone who sponsored us and our lovely small school in Cilcain. The money will be put to good use.”

The funds will go directly toward outdoor play equipment at Ysgol Y Foel, helping to create more opportunities for healthy, active outdoor play.

On June 23, inspired by the mums’ determination, the junior pupils at Ysgol Y Foel tackled a challenge of their own—climbing Moel Famau as a symbolic “fourth peak” to show their support.

Mrs O’Neill, Headteacher at Ysgol Y Foel, said: “What an amazing achievement by our parents and pupils. This is a wonderful example of community spirit, perseverance, and doing something positive together.”
